Gloucestershire is the choice of Kings, Princes and Princesses and minor Royalty.

The Historic cities of Gloucester and Cheltenham nestle amongst idyllic green rolling hills. The Cotwolds, Malverns and Severn valley provide a great playground of villages to explore, hills to climb and pubs to discover.

Gloucester
Gloucester is the older city (named Glevum by the Romans) and has seen a rejuvenation of late, particularly in the gentrification of the Docks (Britain’s most inland port). The city is famous for its cathedral (worthy of a visit long before parts of “Harry Potter” were filmed here). The residents are perhaps prouder of their Guinness Premiership rugby team – the cherry and whites. They play at Kingsholm, just a well timed punt away from the Hospital itself.

Cheltenham
Cheltenham is a regency spa town and in the summer its architecture and style can be stunning. The town plays host to many festivals: Literature, science, jazz, folk and contemporary music. The Cheltenham Gold cup, based at its famous race course is a highlight of each spring. There’s a great choice of fine restaurants and a busy commercial centre. http://www.visitcheltenham.com

If that’s not enough – then there’s always cheese rolling. The ancient ‘sport’ at Cooper’s Hill provides entertainment for the bank-holiday crowds, adrenaline for the entrants and admissions for the orthopaedic wards. http://www.cheese-rolling.co.uk

If ‘chocolate-box’ pretty villages and English charm is not enough to keep you here – we are well connected to the rest of the country. Bristol and Birmingham can both be reached in 45 minutes. Stratford-upon-Avon and Oxford are under an hour away.

In fact many Hospital workers commute in – particularly from the Forest of Dean and Bristol.
